Whether you’re a skin care enthusiast or not, you’ve heard about pimples or had one before. Pimples are some of the most annoying things to attack a person’s skin. First, they hurt from the inside out, second they appear ugly on the skin and make you feel uncomfortable.
Though very much related, there is a difference between pimples and blackheads. Let’s see look at the difference between pimples and blackheads in detail below.
What are pimples?
Pimples are red tender bumps with white pus at their tips. They usually appear on parts of the body where there are a number of functional oil glands. These parts include: face, chest, neck, shoulders and back.
Pimples are caused by various things. Some pimples are hormonal whereas others could be a sign of bacteria in the body. The good news is. pimples are easy to treat, but you’ll have to be extra careful while choosing medication for them. You don’t want to cause more pimples by using a product that your skin might be allergic to.
What are blackheads?
A blackhead is an open skin pore or hair follicle clogged with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. Blackheads are siblings with whiteheads. A whitehead is a closed skin pore or hair follicle clogged with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria.
Blackheads and whiteheads also appear as bumps on the skin, but much smaller in size than pimples. They are a mild type of acne that usually appear on the face. They can also grow on other parts of the body such as: arms, neck, chest, back and shoulders.
How Blackheads Are Formed
Blackheads will appear on the skin when your skin pores(which usually contain hairs) get clogged with oil. This oil is known as Sebum and is produced by the Sebaceous glands found inside hair follicles.
When dead skin cells mix with the this oil inside the opening of a hair follicle, they form a bump. When the skin over the bump opens up, it becomes exposed to air, which makes it darken, forming a blackhead. If the skin over the bump remains closed, a whitehead is formed.
However, blackheads should not make you panic because they can be treated with easily and heal within days or a week. There are also various ways to get rid of blackheads on your own at home, so it shouldn’t be something you need to see a doctor for.
